Jack Payne insists Leyton Orient aren’t frightened by anyone in League Two with just over a month of the new season completed.

The O’s have made an excellent start to life in the fourth tier of English football, winning five of their seven league games to sit top of the table.

Wycombe Wanderers visit Brisbane Road this weekend and after reaching the play-off final last year, will no doubt provide a stern examination of the east Londoners title credentials.

But Payne believes Ian Hendon’s men can deal with anybody at this level despite their surprising recent loss at Exeter City.

He said: “I don’t think anybody has frightened us in this division. I think the 4-0 defeat to Exeter was a freak result.

“I don’t think that will happen again and even their manager Paul Tisdale said we were the best team they have played so I don’t think we have got anything to worry about in this league.

“We are just enjoying playing well at the moment. You see us on the ball, we pass it around and when we do that I don’t think people can get near us sometimes.

“We are enjoying winning and I think that feeling is the best feeling so we just want to keep that going all season if we can.”

Payne, on-loan from Peterborough United, praised the away support at Cambridge United last weekend after making his debyt.

Orient took 1,739 fans to the Abbey Stadium and they saw a Jay Simpson goal earn them a 1-1 draw.

It ensured the O’s bounced back from their defeat at Exeter with a solid result, but now they are keen to get back to winning ways.

“The fans were brilliant against Cambridge and I can’t wait for the game against Wycombe, if I am in the team, because I know what they are like now,” added Payne.

“Our fans were great last weekend and we have got them a point so we move onto the next one.

“We want to go on another run. We did five in five and now we have got a draw we need to build on that and go on another mini-run and that starts this weekend.”

It will be tough for Orient against Wycombe, but they have the ability in attack to hurt the Chairboys defence, who have only conceded four goals in the league this season.
