A police officer has admitted to perverting the course of justice by pretending to be the driver of a car involved in a road smash in Limehouse when he wasn’t.

Pc Miladur Khan, 30, who is attached to the Met’s East Area Command, was caught on Tower Hamlets Council’s CCTV camera showing he wasn’t the driver in the collision with another vehicle in Burdett Road on June 29 last year.

He was asked several times to confirm if he was the driver and said he was, but later confessed to protecting his brother who had no driving insurance.

The Pc, who is on restricted duties, admitted the offence at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday and was bailed for sentencing on May 30. An internal Met Police misconduct review takes place once the criminal proceedings are complete.

His brother Mured Khan, 26, from Stepney Way in Stepney, pleading guilty at Thames Magistrates’ Court to driving without insurance and was banned from driving for six months and fined £200.
