A MAN was taken to hospital with a broken arm early today after a road accident in East London involving a police car answering a 999 call.
The 31-year-old was crossing Bethnal Green Road when he was injured at 3.40am and was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Two officers in the patrol car were also treated in hospital for shock.
Police investigators closed part of Bethnal Green Road for five hours, reopening it at 8.40am.
The marked car was answering an emergency 999 call from a householder to a “robbery in progress,” Scotland Yard confirmed later.
