A PET dog 'raised the alarm' when its 84-year-old owner was trapped for two hours in her home in East London this-morning.

Neighbours heard the dog barking, but could get no answer when they knocked at the door of the pensioner's flat at Stepney's Seagrove House in Wellesley Street, off Stepney Green.

Emergency fire crews had to use a ladder to get up to the second-floor balcony of the flat.

They found her collapsed in the kitchen, unable to move. The woman was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel with a bruised eye, cut to the hand and suspected hip injury. The neighbours were later looking after the 'hero' dog.
