THE man who plunged 40ft to his death from his blazing home in East London on Monday has been named this morning as 20-year-old student Mafil Ali.
A petrol can had been placed on the fire which broke out in his bedroom at Bethnal Green's Ellen Wilkinson House, off Roman Road, which caused an explosion to rip through the fourth-floor flat at 8.15pm that evening, according to an inquest opening at Poplar this-morning.
Mafil was badly burned when he leapt out of the window and fell four storeys to the communal lawn below.
EXPLOSION
He was rushed to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, but died three hours later.
Coroner Andrew Reid said: “A petrol can had been put onto the fire which caused it to accelerate and led to the explosion. He was in the room alone."
Mafil’s His sister Norzahan Bibi and her brother-in-law were at this morning’s opening of the inquest, which has been adjourned until November 4.
