PEOPLE have the chance to vote for their favourite design for a garden to brighten up the 2012 Olympic site.

There are 12 designs to choose from including gardens featuring the Olympic rings, a canoe trail complete with a boat for children to paddle in and a garden designed by the great-granddaughter of a gold and silver medallist in the 1908 London Olympics.

Winners will be picked from the children's and adults categories and they will work with professional garden designers to create a Great British garden to flourish during the 2012 games and beyond in the contest run with the Royal Horticultural Society.

Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said: "It was exciting to see so many good entries for what is a unique chance for the general public to shape part of the Olympic Park. The winners will help design a Great British Garden on the Olympic park, but it's the public who pick the winners. The final shortlist reflects the traditions and quirks of British gardens, from Tudor roses to garden gnomes but they are all very different designs. I can't wait to see what the British public decide."

Vote for your favourite design on www.rhs.org.uk/Competitions/Great-British-Garden-Competition by midnight on October 30.
