Swing East, held at Chrisp Street Market, included vintage cars, records and clothes stalls alongside a chance to shake, rattle and roll - and even learn the Lindy Hop.

About 1,500 people from around the country attended yesterday’s event, with many dressed up in clothing from the era, including headscarves and tea dresses.

Live music was provided by Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods, Sugar Ray’s Lucky Combo and The Hot Tin Roofs.

Bree Sims, from Poplar Harca, which organised the event, said: “There was a real mix of people with people in absolutely fabulous Fifites gear who knew all the moves along with local people who were up for getting up and having a boogie.”
