Details of a £250 million regeneration project have been released that will provide more than 1,000 new homes and transform an east London estate.

The work at Aberfeldy Village in Poplar received planning permission last year and will create 1,174 new homes over the next 12 years, including private housing.

The first phase of the project will provide 105 homes for private sale, 158 for private rental and 75 affordable homes, along with three new commercial premises.

The plans will create a new central street with shops a multi-use community centre and healthcare facilities.

There will also be open space and landscaped green areas with publicly displayed artworks.

Andrew Telfer, divisional chief executive at Willmott Dixon, said: “Aberfeldy Village is an exciting and pivotal scheme for both Wilmot Dixon and the London housing market.

“Our new homes, which will attract a whole new generation to Poplar, will be the catalyst for further investment across the area, making it a very appealing place to live.”

The long term regeneration project will provide over 1,000 construction jobs during the work and 300 new jobs in the area once the project is completed.

The regeneration is being carried out by Willmott Dixon, a construction company, and Poplar HARCA, a registered social landlord that manages 9,000 homes in Poplar.

Bernadette Conroy, chair of Poplar HARCA, said: “Today marks the beginning of a ten to 12 year reshaping plan which will see Aberfeldy estate completely transformed.

She added: “One of the most important stakeholder groups behind these plans has been our residents.

“It’s their commitment to their community that has helped to develop our Masterplan and the future of the Aberfeldy Estate.”
