A People’s Plaque scheme is being started that will set local historians buzzing in London’s East End to mark people and places of significance.
Households from next Monday can nominate a person or spot they feel has historic importance that should be commemorated with a plaque.
A panel from Tower Hamlets local history library at Mile End will then shortlist 20 nominations for a public vote before announcing seven winners.
The scheme takes off at its October 7 launch at the Archive library in Bancroft Road, which itself was the historic Vestry Hall when Mile End Old Town ran its own municipality in the 19th century.
