PLAYTIME has swung into action this year for 8,000 children in London's deprived East End with Town Hall bosses expanding children's play schemes.
Street dance classes have been running at Mile End Park, while fun days have been held at Mudchute city farm on the Isle of Dogs and longer opening hours are operating in adventure play groups.
Seven play projects are being paid for by Tower Hamlets council with £1 million from the Big Lottery Fund for the East End's own Play Association and other organisations.
Groups benefiting from the cash hand-outs include Whitechapel's Attlee community centre, Shadwell's Glamis adventure playground and Bethnal Green's Weavers adventure playground.
