Dear Ed, GORDON Brown’s prevarication over the release of the Lockerbie bomber is disgraceful. The relatives of the victims of the Lockerbie bomb won’t see justice done because our government has one eye on the tax revenues it can get through a trade deal for BP.

Dear Ed,

GORDON Brown's disgraceful prevarication over the release of the Lockerbie bomber has led to news stories about the dealings between the British and Libyan governments.

The constant theme through all the revelations is the Prime Minister's preference for calculation rather than fighting for principles. The relatives of the victims of the Lockerbie bomb won't see justice done because our government has one eye on the tax revenues it can get through a trade deal for BP.

It is Brown's financial recklessness in the good times that have led our weakened country to this sorry state where we have to sell our justice system.

Now, fresh news that Brown personally vetoed an attempt to force the Libyan government to pay reparations after they gave technical support to the IRA, who have killed thousands of people.

I hugely respect people like Jonathan Ganesh, who was deafened and injured in the South Quay bomb at Canary Wharf on the Isle of Dogs in 1996 and who now campaigns on behalf of the families of those affected by terrorism.

Like many people in the East End, I believe our MP Jim Fitzpatrick to be a lot more principled than the Prime Minister, even if I often disagree with him.

Will Jim Fitzpatrick vindicate that faith and stick up for those in his constituency who have suffered in this way by telling Brown to change his mind? If not, I hope his constituents have a message for him at the General Election.
