POLICE have been looking for the driver involved in a night-time car smash in the fog who ran from the scene-leaving his passenger trapped in the vehicle.

Fire crews had to use heavy cutting gear to free the trapped passenger from the back of the blue BMW which crashed into a lamp-post in East London at Grove Road, Victoria Park, at 4.30am last Friday.

It took an hour to cut free the passenger, a man in his 20s, who was trapped on the seat by his legs. He was taken to hospital, but was not thought to have been seriously injured.

Police questioned another motorist at the scene, but were still looking for the MBW driver after his vehicle spun out of control in icy, foggy conditions when it hit the lamp-post.
