Met Police have issued advice for spectators ahead of the London Marathon on Sunday.

People are being urged to keep their valuables safe and remain alert as thousands more will be out on the streets.

A four-day DLR strike, which was due to begin today, was called off at the last minute yesterday.

Commander Simon Bray, who is leading the policing operation for London Marathon said: “Our priority is to ensure everyone taking part and all spectators have a safe and enjoyable experience.

“There will be a mixture of overt and covert officers deployed along the entire route and at transport hubs across London. You can expect to see police dogs, armed officers and vehicle barriers being utilised throughout the event.

“While there is no specific threat to this event, we ask people to remain vigilant, and if you notice anything suspicious then please approach an officer or call 999.”

Police have reminded people to keep purses and wallets close, secure and concealed. They also recommend using hands-free devices to prevent phone thefts.

Sunday’s marathon could be the hottest on record, with temperatures expected to reach 24 degrees.

Coverage of the marathon, including route map and inspiring stories from some of the runners, is in this week’s paper, out now.
