The Weavers safer neighbourhood team marked postcodes on shoppers' bicycles at Columbia Road flower market in Bethnal Green on Sunday.

East Enders, market traders and visitors brought their bicycles along to be identity marked to prevent and deter bicycle theft.

Officers marked more than 70 bicycles and advised people on crime prevention tactics.

PC Karl Holman said: "It is important that cyclists get their bikes marked as this can prevent them from being stolen.

"We also used the event as a way of publicising ourselves so that the local residents can meet their safer neighbourhood team and discuss any issues they had in the area.
