Tower Hamlets deputy mayor for regeneration Rachel Blake looked round the state-of-the-art facility in Parnell Road opened by Spotlight youth services.

The studio, which has received 200 registrations so far, has revealed a need for a safe place for young people to be creative and pursue career opportunities, working with professionals.

It came about following Spotlight’s eight months of research among young people in Bow and Poplar.

“They asked for creative arts facilities,” Spotlight’s director Daniel Rose said. “This is a studio with professional facilities that’s linked to our ‘Spotlight Sounds’ record label which has unearthed talent.”

Spotlight already runs six youth hubs in Bow and Poplar, with 6,000 youngsters on its programmes. The studio was set up with agreement with Clarion housing group and Tower Hamlets Council. Clarion provided the premises and paid to have the place decorated.
