Volunteers spruce up Whitechapel’s Brady arts centre with paint and soundproofing
PUBLISHED: 09:00 07 December 2018
Volunteers have been rolling their sleeves up giving Whitechapel’s Brady centre a ‘sound’ new lick of paint to bring it up to scratch.
The storage area and green room has been revamped and the music rooms soundproofed.
The programme by the ‘Volunteer It Yourself’ social enterprise organisation has taken on eight homeless and unemployed people from the Amber Foundation to take on the task at the art deco building in Hanbury Street, supported by the Mayor of London’s fund for community development.
It has been given tools and decorating materials by Wicke’s stores in Canning Town and Chadwell Heath which have also covered the cost of mentors to help out.
The volunteers take part in training workshops and have been given a tour of the Brady’s music studios and offered a chance to start courses.
The popular arts centre puts on shows, exhibitions and concerts while providing a stage for emerging artists to perform in public and also runs art courses.
