The latest candidate to announce their intention to win Labour’s nomination to fight the 2014 Mayoral election in Tower Hamlets is Cllr David Edgar.

A former deputy leader of Tower Hamlets Council, Cllr Edgar says he will bring “strong and collaborative” leadership to the role if he is selected.

Announcing his candidacy, he said: “My experience as a campaigner and my commitment to local people make me a strong choice to be Labour’s Mayoral candidate.”

“Tower Hamlets can make progress on education, the local economy, the environment and healthcare. Improvements are not out of reach but strong and collaborative leadership is essential to achieve them. I can provide that leadership.”

Cllr Edgar will face competition from London Assembly Member for City and East John Biggs, and Cllr Rachael Saunders, both of whom have formally announced their decision to stand in recent weeks.

More candidates are expected to come forward before the closing date for applications on February 22. The successful candidate will be announced in early April following an internal selection process by Tower Hamlets Labour group.
