INDEPENDENT candidates fighting the hotly contested Poplar and Limehouse seat will be put on the spot at a special hustings event tonight.

There are ten men fighting to become the first MP of the newly created Poplar and Limehouse constituency and the event at the Cruising Association in Limehouse gives them a chance to tell voters about themselves and answer the tricky questions.

The event starts at 7.30pm at the Cruising Association, Northey Street, Limehouse Basin and will be chaired by television presenter Willard Foxton.

Organisers said he has been given powers to cut the candidates off and is encouraged to force the candidates to answer the questions.

People can submit their questions in advance via on online form at http://jimthornton.org.uk/ask-your-hustings-questions-4th-may and voters can also ask questions from the floor on the night.
