MP Jim Fitzpatrick nominates Taliban shooting victim Malala Yousafzai for Nobel Prize

A 15-year-old schoolgirl and campaigner from Pakistan who was shot by the Taliban has received MP Jim Fitzpatrick's backing to take home the Nobel Peace Prize.

Malala Yousafzai, who has campaigned for women’s education since the age of eight, has been nominated by the Poplar and Limehouse MP after a constituent got in contact and urged him to lend his support.

Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in October after she voiced criticisms of its politics.

“The strength and courage of this young campaigner should be properly recognised”, said Mr Fitzpatrick.

“Malala’s bravery brought to our attention the plight of millions of young women who are denied a right to education everyday because of discrimination, culture and poverty.

“I believe Malala Yousafzai deserves the Nobel Peace Prize and it is an honor to nominate her”, he added.
