Members of a delegation which travelled to Palestine have pronounced the visit a “resounding success” upon their return.

The group, including councillors, activists and trade union representatives, travelled from Tower Hamlets to the city of Jenin in northern Palestine in August.

Guy Shennan, who was a member of the delegation, said: “The trip was a resounding success in terms of developing links between the two communities, and raising the awareness.”

During the trip, the group met civic figures from Jenin, and heard evidence of the struggles faced by people in the region as a result of the continuing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

They also witnessed the release of three Palestinian prisoners who walked free in the lead-up to peace talks currently being held on the region’s future.
