Speeding cars in Carr Street could kill a child, claim Stepney families

Youths in speeding cars could turn a quiet residential side turning in London’s East End into a death trap, families fear.
They are cutting through Carr Street in Stepney like a race track, angry residents claim.
The families are handing in a petition at tonight’s Tower Hamlets council meeting calling for more road humps to stop the racers.
“No one is safe—especially our children,” petition organiser Mohammed Shamim said. “We cannot sleep at night because we’ve had youths driving dangerously and racing up and down.”
Several accidents have been caused in the street next to the Regent’s Canal, including collisions with parked vehicles, the families claim. The latest cited was last week “just after school where a youth was driving about 50-60mph” and hit a parked car before colliding with another.
Mr Shamim added: “If nothing is done, one day they will kill a child.”
Councillors are to consider his petition tonight.
