INDEPENDENT candidates fighting the hotly contested Poplar and Limehouse seat will be put on the spot at a special hustings event.

There are ten men fighting to become the first MP of the newly created Poplar and Limehouse constituency and the event at the Cruising Association in Limehouse gives them a chance to tell voters about themselves and answer the tricky questions.

So far Independent Kabir Mahmud, English Democrat Andrew Osborne, Green Chris Smith, Independent Jim Thornton and UKIP's Wayne Lochner have confirmed they can make the event at Northey Street on Tuesday May 4.

The hustings start at 7.30pm and are due to finish at 9pm.
