Graduates have celebrated completing a year-long governance course with a special ceremony.

The programme, run by housing association Poplar HARCA, saw nine East End residents receive qualification equivalent to A-levels.

It was aimed at improving management skills for people looking to work in the voluntary sector.

One graduate whose achievements were celebrated at the ceremony, held at St Paul’s Way Medical Centre, St Paul’s Way, Bow, was Fran Jefcoate, of the Coventry Cross Estate in Bromley-by-Bow.

She said: “I left school at 15, so this is my first qualification but, more importantly, I’m involved in my community.”

Certificates were handed out by Poplar HARCA board members during the event on Tuesday, June 4.
