A celebration of Poplar’s iconic Balfron Tower will form the finale of next month’s London Festival of Architecture.

Ten architects from around the world will explore the influence of emigre architecture on London and propose new ideas for the area on June 21.

Free tours of the tower will be available alongside film screenings, activities highlighting the influence of international architects on the capital and the importance of diversity.

The Balfron tower also features during the festival’s run tour of the “Olympic fringe” which starts in Hackney Wick.

The month-long festival, now in its tenth year, includes more than 150 activities based around the central theme of Capital.

Patricia Brown, chair of the London Festival of Architecture, said: “London is seen as one of the key cultural hotspots in the world but, so far, architecture is not readily viewed with the same significance as, say, the arts, theatre, film or music.

“The festival and its activities help to reveal the contribution of architects and the ‘ecology’ of professions working within the built environment to the cultural landscape of the UK.”
