THIS month's national Premium Bond millionaire selected today is a man living in Inner London.

He has scooped the top prize for October with Bond number 64WG747620, which he bought in September, 2002.

The man, who has asked to remain anonymous, is the 237th Premium Bond millionaire.

"I bought Premium Bonds for the chance I might win some prizes," he said.

"But I never thought I would actually come away with £1 million!

"It's great to know I can help out and treat my family."

This month's draw is paying out 1.6 million prizes, totaling £50m. There were almost four-and-a-half billion eligible Bond numbers in the draw.

Premium Bonds, with their chance to win tax-free prizes instead of interest payments, were introduced by Chancellor Harold Macmillan in his 1956 budget.
