CAMPAIGNERS fighting expansion of an estate in East London hold a protest meeting on Monday over Town Hall plans for 24 new blocks.

Residents are planning to appeal against a decision by Tower Hamlets council to give the green light for 24 buildings up to eight storeys high which will add another 236 flats to Mile End's Bede Estate.

The redevelopment of the estate in Bow Common Lane would see the demolition of 10 bedsit units in Pickard House as well as offices in nearby Wagner Street. Existing homes would be refurbished.

Campaigners objecting to the development are holding a public protest meeting at St Paul's Church Hall in Burdett Road, Mile End, at 7.30pm on Monday.
