The owners of the Whitechapel Bell Foundry are holding another public consultation on the site’s future.

The Bell Foundry moved into the Grade II listed building in Whitechapel Road in 1740, but premises were sold in 2016 after rising costs and declining demand for business made it economically unviable for the company to stay.

A consultation was held in May for locals to give their views on proposals for the site, with two more planned for this week.

Proposals include a restoration of the historic elements of the site, which Raycliff, the new owners, hope to keep open for public access. They’re proposing designs which incorporate the building’s history of bell founding, and there are also plans for artist studios, workspaces, a hotel and restaurants to be built.

The consultations will be held in the 1980s building, accessed from Fieldgate Street and Plumbers Row. They will take place on Thursday from 4-8pm and on Saturday from 10am-2pm.

Answers to questions raised at the previous consultation can be found at thebellfoundry.co.uk/faqs.
