Plans to redevelop South Quay Plaza which could include a tower taller than Canary Wharf go on final public show opening tomorrow before the planning application is submitted.

It follows the last of a series of public forums held earlier this month by Berkeley Homes where discussions included height of the tallest of the two towers, now set at 73 storeys, and its impact on the skyline.

Developers have modified the original plans first unveiled last summer for a tower “anywhere between 55 and 85 floors, subject to feedback from the public at these exhibitions”.

Concern has long been exporessed about the ability of the Isle of Dogs to manage the increased population the huge development would bring, with its impact on local services.

“We have consulted as widely as possible,” said Berkeley Homes managing director Harry Lewis. “We’ll reflect on the comments and suggestions made as we move towards a planning application to Tower Hamlets council in early spring.”

The developers put in an initial ideas report to planners at the Town Hall last summer.

The complex on the edge of the old Millwall Docks would have 40,000sq ft of shops and 20,000sq ft of commercial offices as well as 1,150 flats. The site currently has retail and office properties, but is listed for residential development.

The public exhibition tomorrow and Saturday is at the Lantern Theatre Studios at 3 Millharbour, Isle of Dogs.
