The Museum of Childhood will celebrate the 350th anniversary of Mr Punch this summer with a special exhibition based around Punch and Judy shows.
Mr Punch was first cited in Samuel Pepys’ diaries in 1662, and has transfixed children in shows ever since.
The exhibition, entitled “That’s the way to do it!”, will feature photographs of Punch practitioners, known as ‘professors’, taken by Tom Hunter. The pictures feature these professors and their booths in a variety of quintessential English locations, and aims to illustrate the different methods each uses to bring Punch and Judy to life.
The display will run from July 14 to December 9 at the Museum of Childhood in Cambridge Heath Road.
