This week the East London Advertiser marks its 150th anniversary with a special 40-page history supplement and a quiz.

We’ve brought you all the big stories, from Jack the Ripper’s reign of terror on the streets of Whitechapel to the infamous Kray twins, from the opening of Tower Bridge to the opening of the Docklands Light Railway.

And along the way we’ve given some celebrities a leg up in their careers. TV presenter and author Richard Madeley worked as a news reporter on the ELA in the 1970s. So did Steve Harley, who then quit journalism to find pop music success with Cockney Rebel.

TalkRADIO presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer and The Sun’s royal photographer Arthur Edwards also worked on the ELA back in the day.

All four reminisce about those days in this week’s special anniversary copy of the paper.

See how much you know about the history of the East End with our online quiz and find out more in Thursday’s 150th birthday edition.
