HUNDREDS of readers have rallied behind beleaguered Government minister Jim Fitzpatrick after his outspoken comments about segregation at Muslim weddings.

They voted in the East London Advertiser’s online poll that he was right to quit a ceremony at Whitechapel’s London Muslim Centre on September 9 because he was being segregated from his wife.

Just over 71 per cent of the hundreds of Advertiser Website readers backed his decision, while around 29 per cent said he was wrong.

The Poplar & Canning Town MP streaked ahead on Tuesday after he had been trailing at 39 per when our poll opened last Friday. The poll in which almost 700 took part has now closed.

Mr Fitzpatrick’s protest was not about Muslim custom. He was furious at the stranglehold’ he claims the Islamic Forum Europe has over the London Muslim Centre, the subject of the Advertiser’s next online pole on our website Home Page.
