Around 350 are being made available to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The scholarships are open to all students who meet the criteria, with some schemes specifically for Home, EU, or overseas students.

Science & Engineering Taught Programmes dean Prof Julia Shelton, who chairs the university’s scholarship committee, said: “This record number of scholarships follows a steady rise over the past two years, encouraging students to continue to work hard.”

The value and duration of scholarships vary, with many worth £5,000 a year and some covering full tuition fees and living costs.

One student on a Science & Engineering scholarship, Fayza Batool Din, said: “It has covered my educational expenses and is also something I can talk about in job interviews to demonstrate academic abilities.”

Some scholarships are offered in partnership with outside organisations such as the Chevening scholarship, the Commonwealth scholarship schemes and the Fulbright programmes, as well as other universities, local authorities and private donors.

Bursaries are also being offered by Queen Mary’s to support students from low income families.
