Final preparations are under way for the London Youth Games Regatta and a record-breaking year at east London’s Royal Docks tomorrow (Sat).

The event being staged in the Victoria Dock and the London Regatta Centre has 900 young competitors aged nine to 17 taking part from 30 London boroughs—more than triple the number in 2008 when it was re-launched with sailing, rowing, kayak slalom and kayak sprint events.

Former competitors include Olympic 2012 Team GB members Mark Hunter, defending rowing lightweight double sculls gold medallist who competed for Havering, and Richard Hounslow, European kayak gold medallist who competed for Harrow.

The Thames Water event forms part of the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games which now include 80 school and community competitions in 30 sports over the year, with the grand finals at Crystal Palace from June 28 to July 1.
