BORIS Johnson wants all refugees in London to have English lessons to help them blend into British society.

The Mayor’s plans to help them assimilate is part of a strategy announced yesterday when he launched his new migration board to lobby for more courses for non-English speakers.

“It’s imperative refugees learn English as soon as possible to ease their integration into London life,” he said.

“Without integrating, they face barriers to jobs and further education and don’t fully function and contribute to society.”

He has formed a migration board’ to direct more Government funds for language courses.

“My own ancestors benefited from being able to come to this great city,” Boris added. “I’m proud of that.

“Refugees bring skills, experience, knowledge and often an entrepreneurial spirit that can contribute to London’s economy.”

The Mayor’s move is backed by the Refugee Council which stressed that the process of integration’ starts from the moment a refugee arrives.
