BRICK Lane restaurateur Azmal Hussain has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The curry king’ businessman and chair of MP George Galloway’s Tower Hamlets Respect party was released last Thursday—less than 48 hours after he was arrested at his Preem restaurant on suspicion of common assault and witness intimidation.

The 56-year-old was bailed until September 22, when he must attend an East London police station.

Police said his arrest followed an incident in Brick Lane on August 10.

Mr Hussain is a good friend and close ally of Bethnal Green & Bow MP Galloway and regularly hosts receptions for Respect at his restaurant.
