A BRICK Lane 'curry king' who is one of MP George Galloway's financial backers and the chair of his Tower Hamlets Respect Party has been arrested on suspicion of common assault and witness intimidation.

Azmal Hussain, 56, was arrested near his Preem restaurant in Brick Lane at around 10.30pm last night (Tuesday), and held overnight in Bethnal Green police station.

A Met police spokeswoman said this-afternoon: "A 56-year-old man was arrested and is presently in custody regarding an incident in Brick Lane on August 10.

"He was arrested on suspicion of common assault and witness intimidation."

Mr Hussain is one of the most prominent members of Galloway's Respect party.
