POLICE are seeking witnesses this week in their hunt for two thugs who stabbed a New Year’s Eve partygoer in the face in front of his girlfriend in London’s East End.

The couple were attacked in Gillender Street next to the A12 Blackwall Tunnel Approach Road at Bromley-by-Bow while on their way to celebrations.

The 29-year-old man was stabbed in the face several times and slashed across the throat while his girlfriend was pushed to the ground—even after he handed over his mobile phone and wallet. His 27-year-old girlfriend’s handbag was also snatched.

Both were taken to hospital, but discharged the next day.

“The couple were in the road during the attack and a bus had to slow down for them,” said the Robbery Squad’s Det Con KC McGarry.

“Gillender Street next to the Blackwell Tunnel approach is busy and there were cars and buses going past.”

The thugs were aged 18 to 25. One was white, with light brown or mousey hair, wearing a grey hooded top and black trousers, the other was Asian with short black hair who was wearing a black hooded jacket.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the New Year’s Eve attack to contact the Robbery Squad on 020-8217 4673, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
