A new private ferry service across the Thames has begun operations from Canary Wharf Pier in East London.
It connects to the revamped, grandly-named ‘Double Tree’ Hilton London Docklands hotel, following its multi-million pound renovation.
The 379-room hotel has a private pier from where the ferry operates for guests to get from Rotherhithe’s waterfront to Canary Wharf to connect with Underground and DLR services and London City Airport, aimed at business travellers. Operators are running the ferry every 10 minutes.
The pier is also being promoted as a staging point for hotel guests to catch the Thames Clippers service into central London, with tourist attractions en route such as Tower Bridge, Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament.
The complex has three buildings including the Grade I-listed Columbia Wharf dating back 400 years to the 17th century and 14 event spaces for up to 300 people.
Each guest room is designed for business and leisure, with balcony views of Canary Wharf and the Thames.
Two riverside terraces have been added, one with bar and summer barbecue and the other used as a “cigar terrace”.
