The O’s assistant discussed the performance against Barnet and the impact of James Alabi and Dale Gorman

Ross Embleton was delighted to see Leyton Orient improve after half time and secure an excellent National League victory over John Still’s Barnet.

The O’s took an early lead through Josh Coulson, but Wes Fonguck levelled midway through the opening 45 to ensure it was all square at the break.

Orient kicked on after the restart, however, and picked up all three points after goals by James Dayton and Macauley Bonne in the final 22 minutes.

Assistant boss Embleton said: “Barnet have been on a very good run and are a big club in this league and I am sure everyone expects them to be up around the top part of the table come the end of the season.

“The run they have been on is credit to them, but I think we started well and we were fairly comfortable in possession. We knew at half time we needed to take it up a notch and I thought we went from strength to strength.”

Justin Edinburgh’s substitutions once again had a big impact with James Alabi and Dale Gorman impressing from the bench.

Embleton hailed the attitude of those not currently in the starting XI, adding: “It is something that has been repeated a number of times already, but whenever we have tried to close the game out or increase the intensity and up the performance to win, the boys coming on have executed it.

“They drive each other on and listening to them pre-match and in the warm-up, everyone is urging each other on to have the right attitude.

“There are good players missing out on the squad at the moment, but their motivation has been right and Dale Gorman and James Alabi deserve huge credit for coming on and turning the game and giving us the last notch we needed.”

Orient’s victory, their sixth of the campaign, ensured they capped #RetroDay with a positive result.

Various supporters turned up in old shirts and Embleton was impressed with the noise they generated at the Breyer Group Stadium with an attendance of 5,607 present for the London derby.

He concluded: “We were trying to second guess the number Barnet would bring to see if it would top up the crowd and I’ve seen a huge amount of shirts which I have grown up with.

“There were some different ones and some real indifferent ones and ones which fitted people quite well a few years ago, but perhaps not now!

“It was fantastic and great to see and the place was rocking when we got the second and third goals and there was a real good feel about the place.”
