Graffiti, tattoos, gaming and learning how to DJ were new experiences for teenagers at the Royal London Children’s hospital on Saturday.
When more than 40 teenage patients and their friends enjoyed a fun day without any parental guidance meaning they could do exactly what teenagers do.
Without getting rushed tattoos and getting too drunk, with the hospital only allowing spray-on tattoos and mocktails instead of cocktails, while also allowing them to game, DJ, dance and graffiti t-shirts.
Tara Shea, Play Team Leader who led the event, said: “It was wonderful to see our young patients enjoying the new experiences and independence that growing up should afford everyone, regardless of disability or health condition.
“I am proud of the strength shown by young people in coping very well with serious illness as well as the support we provide to help them. It is fantastic to see many grow into high-achieving young adults.”
