East Enders organised a knees-up amid scaffolding on their Mile End estate to celebrate the Royal Wedding today.
Residents of Wager Street and the Bede Estate hung bunting and ribbons from building works to regenerate housing in the area and watched the William and Kate’s Royal procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace on a big screen in the estate’s square.
Organiser Caroline Smith said: “I had everyone in my house for a while because the TV went on the blink so we all scrambled to my living room but we got it working again.”
Neighbours had been slaving in the kitchen to put on a buffet of sandwiches, curry and cake for everyone to dig into.
