Hardy East Enders are in training for next week’s Great Spitalfields pancake race on Shrove Tuesday.
Teams of four can enter the relay being staged at The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, starting at 12.30pm.
They have to bring their own frying pans, but Alternative Arts, the organisers, provide the pancakes.
Runners have to toss the pancakes at least twice as they dash along the cobbled Dray Walk to the finishing line. Winners get an engraved frying pan for their pains and there’s a prize for ‘best dressed’ team.
Wannabe pancake racers can write to Alternative Arts at Whitechapel’s Montefiore Centre in Hanbury Street, E1 5HZ, call 020-7375 0441 or email info@alternativearts.co.uk. Money raised on February 21 goes to the London Air Ambulance charity’s emergency helicopter service at the Royal London Hospital.
