A primary school in the East End is urging the London Mayor and government to call in a decision by the council to approve a housing development next to their playground.
School governor for Mayflower Primary School, Joanna Lilley, has written to Boris Johnson and Children and School Secretary Ed Balls after Tower Hamlets approved plans for the development. They are also appealing the decision with the council.
Teachers and parents say the planned housing block next to the school in Upper North Street, Poplar, will make pupils "feel hemmed in" and "overlooked".
The set back two-storey houses which occupied the site have already been torn down by Housing Association Poplar Harca to make way for the block.
But teachers and parents hope a last-minute intervention from Mr Johnson or Mr Balls will stop the housing block being build next to their playground.
