A MULTI-million pound sculpture which will give panoramic views of the capital is to be built in Olympic Park.

The Orbit is a 19.1 million artwork that will reach 115 metres into the sky with twisted steel lattices and two viewing platforms at 80 metres.

Famed artist Anish Kapoor was picked to build the structure, which will be mainly financed by steel company ArcelorMittal.

The remaining 3.1 million will be picked up by the London Development Agency as part of the post London 2012 games legacy.

Planners promise Orbit, which will be taller than the Statue of Liberty, will provide unparalleled views of the entire 250 acres of the Olympic Park and London's skyline.
