Second swine’ flu case confirmed in East London

A SECOND case of swine’ flue has been confirmed today in London’s East End.

The partner of a woman diagnosed with the H1N1 virus earlier this week contracted the infection himself, health chiefs have told the East London Advertiser.

The woman had recently returned to London from America.

Now her male partner has also tested positive, bosses at NHS Tower Hamlets revealed.

They are both being treated with anti-viral drugs and are said to be recovering well at home.

The Health Protection Agency is now trying to locate the couple’s friends and family who may have come into contact with them, to be treated if necessary.

The couple are among five new cases confirmed this week in London, putting the total in the capital at 74.

NHS Tower Hamlets said: “We can confirm there is a second swine flu case in Tower Hamlets. The man is linked to the first case of a woman who tested positive for swine flu after returning from the USA.”

They advise anyone with flu-like symptoms to stay at home and contact NHS Direct on 0845-4647, or call their GP. NHS health bosses are also running a national swine flu information line’ on 0800-1513 513.
