Athletics star Perri Shakes-Drayton drops into her old school in London’s East End this morning to film a video.
The European gold medalist who can run 400 metres over hurdle after hurdle in just 50 seconds arrives at 11am to give a master class for a Home Town Heroes series on British athletes.
Perri, who was brought up in Bow where she still lives, went to Bishop Challenor in 1999 from Poplar’s Holy Family RC Primary, then went on to university.
She came under the athletics spotlight in the national Schools Championships, making it to the 2006 World Junior Championships.
Shakes-Drayton won silver at the 2007 European Junior championships, then gold in the 2009 European Under 23s with a run of 55.2 secs.
It got her to last summer’s Olympics, but she didn’t reach the finals.
Yet the determined hurdle champ went on to take gold in this year’s European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, speeding up her personal best to 50.8secs.
