Jay Simpson bagged a brace to inspire Leyton Orient to a four-goal triumph against Woking at the Kingfield Stadium as Ian Hendon’s team impressed again in their latest pre-season outing.

Ollie Palmer and Scott Kashket were also on target for the Brisbane Road outfit as they flexed their muscles in an excellent first 45 against their National League hosts.

Although the tempo dropped in the second period with various substitutions made by both teams, it was still another encouraging display by the O’s as they get ready for their League Two opener against Barnet on August 8.

Hendon included four trialists in his squad, but left various first team members at home to give them a rest.

Jack Parkinson, who represented Maidstone last season, started in central defence alongside new signing Alan Dunne while recent recruit Alex Cisak was in goal.

Zaine Francis-Angol had spent the last three season with Scottish side Motherwell and he lined up at left-back with Sean Clohessy right-back.

Lloyd James and Sammy Moore partnered each other in central midfield with Blair Turgott and Kashket on the flanks.

Palmer was up front alongside Simpson with trialist goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet on the bench and former Blackburn Rovers defender Yann Songo’o joining him.

The O’s got the action underway and after three minutes they took the lead at the Kingfield Stadium.

Turgott crossed into the box and Palmer was on hand to fire in from close range against the club where he started his career.

Orient led with just three minutes on the clock and Palmer went close again five minutes later, but scuffed a shot wide.

Hendon’s team continued to look lively and Simpson nearly doubled their lead in the 11th minute when he collected James’ pass, but fizzed just over the crossbar.

The Cards responded, though, and John Goddard fired wide of Cisak’s post from inside the box before Orient doubled their advantage.

Palmer won the ball in the air, Kashket flicked the ball forward and Simpson was able to muscle past Woking defender Ismail Yakubu before slotting into the corner with 14 minutes on the clock.

More was still to come too as with 19 minutes on the clock the O’s made it 3-0 with another ball into the box causing chaos for the Cards.

Turgott’s centre was deflected towards goal by home defender Yakubu and Kashket was on hand to touch in from a couple of yards out to extend their lead.

Orient continued to penetrate the home defence time after time and Simpson went close before Dunne headed a free kick wide.

Woking did have the ball in the net towards the end of the half, but that effort was ruled out because Cisak had been impeded and it was the O’s who would have the final say.

Clohessy brought the ball forward, found Simpson inside the box and he smashed past Cards goalkeeper Jake Cole from a tight angle and the half time whistle followed seconds later to conclude an excellent half for the visitors and head coach Hendon.

Bradley Pritchard, Sam Ling and trialist Songo’o were introduced at the break with Moore, Clohessy and Dunne the people to make way.

Orient continued to create opportunity after the interval and James went close in the 51st minute after more good work by Turgott.

Woking substitute Reece Beckles nearly punished some slack defending by Parkinson shortly afterwards, but the Cards man was eased off the ball inside the box before he could get a shot off.

Now that experienced duo Clohessy and Dunne had departed the O’s defence looked less assured, but they were still able to hold firm against the home attack.

Kashket nearly created a fifth on the hour mark when he linked up with Simpson, but the youngster failed to pick out a team mate.

Hendon introduced Sandro Semedo and Freddy Moncur in the 69th minute and trialist goalkeeper Memhet was given another chance too as the pace of the game slowed.

Woking pushed to pull one back and Kieran Murtagh went close from the edge of the area before Montel Agyemang was afforded a late cameo.

There was little action to note from the final 10 minutes, however, and referee Nigel Lugg brought proceeding to an end to conclude a good nights work for Orient, who earned their third pre-season victory under Hendon.
