Ofsted’s former director of inspection Sir Jim Rose dropped in at Bethnal Green’s Mowlem Primary this morning to see how effective a specialist’ education scheme runs in the classroom.
He is conducting an independent review of the primary curriculum around the country on behalf of Whitehall’s Department for Children and Schools.
Mowlem is one of six Tower Hamlets primaries to have arts’ status as part of the pilot project, which involves schools specialising in certain subjects to help improve performance in other areas.
Sir Jim toured the school and the children’s centre where he met parents and youngsters working with the two professional resident artists.
He heard parents’ views on their kids’ education, then looked in on a parent-and-child art session to observe how it functions.
