STUDENTS occupying part of their college campus in protest at plans to axe 550 university jobs including lecturers have been forced out of their sit-in.
Around 70 students took-over the cafeteria in the London Metropolitan University’s Whitechapel campus in East London a week ago.
But they were finally forced out after being issued with a court injunction from university bosses who ordered them to leave.
The university, the largest in London with 34,000 students, is having to repay 50 million after auditors found drop-out rates were higher than stated and that it had been overpaid each year by Whitehall.
Students from the John Cass department of Art, Media & Design have been staging the protest since last Monday to support their lecturers who now face redundancy.
