Tristan Abrahams and Sam Dalby struck doubles to earn 6-0 success with Josh Koroma and Ruel Sotiriou also finding the net for O’s

Leyton Orient produced a masterclass in the first round of the FA Youth Cup at local rivals Southend United last night.

Tristan Abrahams and Sam Dalby hit braces while Josh Koroma and Ruel Sotiriou were on target during the 6-0 rout.

Academy boss Richard Thomas made the decision to start Sam Roach in goal ahead of Arthur Janata at Roots Hall.

Roach has impressed on loan at Essex Senior League outfit Barkingside recently, but was back between the sticks for O’s youth team.

Orient started positively against the Blues and had a couple of shots blocked before taking the lead in the 16th minute.

Josh Koroma tested Southend custodian Nathan Bishop and Abrahams controlled the loose ball before smashing home from close range.

Steven Alzate nearly added a second just two minutes later, but his mazy run ended with a blocked shot.

Less than 60 seconds after that opportunity and it was 2-0 when O’s captain Abrahams added his second – firing in from 25-yards.

Thomas’ talented youngsters were well into their stride now and Koroma dragged an effort wide with 25 minutes played.

Roach was forced to make a save soon after before Orient went three up when Dalby shrugged off Zak Pianim and fired under Bishop in the 33rd minute.

Three minutes later and the east Londoners virtually assured their spot in the second round when Koroma dribbled past a couple of opponents before smashing into the top corner.

It remained 4-0 until half time with Thomas and Omer Riza witnessing a breathtaking first 45 from Orient at Roots Hall.

While the second period was never likely to be as good for O’s, the E10 youngsters were not content with the scoreline.

Lovely footwork from Dalby allowed the 16-year-old to find Koroma, who in turn picked out Abrahams, but Bishop saved his effort.

Orient’s captain was going for his hat-trick now and went close again in the 57th minute, though was denied once more by Southend’s goalkeeper.

Roach needed to be alert just after the hour mark when the hosts put a dangerous cross into the box and the O’s custodian got down well to claim the loose ball.

With the second half drawing to a close, Thomas introduced Sotiriou for Koroma with nine minutes remaining.

It took the substitute just four minutes to make his mark as he calmly finished following an excellent pass by Dalby.

Pat Adamson made way for Andrew Tayaca two minutes later and Orient then added a sixth against their Youth Alliance South East Division rivals.

Dalby capped a great nights work by curling in off the post from the edge of the area in the 88th minute.

Teddy Perkins replaced Henry Ochieng just before full time and it finished 6-0 to Orient at Roots Hall.

It was a stunning performance and demonstrates once again the excellent work going on with the O’s academy, who continue to give the east Londoners the right type of headlines.
